There has never been a more exciting time to be in the cattle business. The sales that I have sold have been some of the best the the breeders have had to date. The Heart of the Ozarks Angus Association had another great sale with a huge crowd, the sale averaged $3,462 on 62 lots. At East Central Missouri Angus Association sale a high quality set of bulls and females sold to a active bidding crowd for a average of over $3,000. This was my first year to sell the Jack Baker Angus Sale, and what a great sale the we had on a windy day in Butler, MO. A capacity crowd packed into his sale barn and without a doubt was extremely active throughout the sale. The 50 bulls sold for a average of $5,285, 61 female lots averaged $3,672, with a total of 111 lots sold to average $4,398. A true highlight of my fall was serving as the Auctioneer for the Earl Weiker Estate Dispersal Sale. With buyers from all over the United States filling the sale barn, the high quality Angus genetics were in great demand. With over 200 lots selling the sale averaged over $4,000 per lot.
I must say that I'm looking forward to this year more than I have any other year. I have a good work week selling car auctions, a busy spring and fall selling cattle auctions, as well as a improving Angus herd.

Along with all of this Rachel is busy as the Online and Social Media Manager for Cowgirl Clad Co. I am very proud of her and the success that she is having. I will say that she is excellent at what she does and takes great pride in her work. If any of you get a chance to visit there, the website is www.cowgirlclad.com.

The car auctions become more and more fun the longer I work them. I enjoy each week working with true professionals in the auction business. It is fun selling salvage cars at Total Resource Auctions, as well as the whole car sales for Manheim and 166 Auto Auction.

With the high demand for quality cattle this should be a fun year of selling cattle. This will be the busiest year I have had selling cattle sales. With the expansion of DNA and improved EPD's, I believe that the bull market will be outstanding.

Our Angus herd is improving and we are now running 60 mother cows. This past fall we purchased a bull from 74-51 Cattle Co. in OK. He is a 2011 son of BC Lookout by a EXAR Sudden Impact dam. We are extremely excited about the upcoming progeny from this exciting herd sire. We have a good show string developing for the summer and fall shows. I would encourage you to stop by and see us at the spring sales and summer shows.

As I look at the year to come and the goals that Rachel and I set it is fun to look at the future and work towards our goals.
This past weekend myself and Wes Tiemann a good friend of mine that I work many of my cattle sales with attended the National Cutting Horse Futurity in Fort Worth, TX. I have been wanting to go to this for sometime now and haven't had the chance, with a weekend open from sales we took advantage and headed to Fort Worth.

The horses at the Futurity were amazing, I would definelty describe them as athletes. I have only ridden a cutting horse one time and I must say it is Awesome. To see the horses work so hard and have total control of a cow is Amazing.
The main reason I wanted to go was to see the Auctions. We went to Friday and Saturday's Auctions. On Friday night they sold the horses in the main Sale Arena, the crowd was huge, it is good we got there early because there was not a seat in the house. Selling the sales were Col. Don Green, Col. Steve Friskup, and Col. Justin Holmberg. I had never got to watch these gentlemen sell a sale and I must say they are all some of the best I have ever seen. It was also good to get to meet these gentlemen and visit with them prior to the sale. One of my good friends Wade Cunningham is a Pedigree Reader for Western Blood Stock, that manages the sales during the Futurity. I must say Wes and I both were very impressed with the job that Wade did at the Futurity. On Saturday we watched the sale, during this sale the horses were working a cow while being sold. This is something I had never seen however is very effective. Again a large crowd was in attendance and horses sold well. It is exciting to see a horse working a cow and selling for $150,000 at the same time.
I am planning on making this trip again next year to see more great horses and more great sales.
Congratulations to all the buyers and sellers that attended the sales I sold. I believe that the quality of cattle get better and better each year at each of my sales. I had a first time sale in Farmington, MO where I sold the Performance Tested Bull Sale, I remember attending this sale when I was very young with my Granddad when he sold bulls there. Again this year I served as one of the Auctioneers for the Sydenstricker Genetics Production Sale, this was there 60th Anniversary sale and a record 1.8 million dollars worth of cattle sold for a average of $4141 per head.

As well as good sales the show were also enjoyable, going to the Tulsa St. Fair where our Simmental bull OBCC Park Ave. M91X was Reserve Grand Champion. At the American Royal he placed 2nd in class behind the Reserve National Champion Bull. We also went to Louisville and took in a couple days watching the Angus Jr show as well as attending some of the Angus meetings and Foundation Reception. It is always good to go to the shows and get to see so many friends from all over the country.

I'm also excited that my wife Rachel owner of Western Beads & Bling will have her Jewelry for sale while at the show, look for her in the trade show area. I would encourage everyone to stop by, say hi and check out all the new BLING!!

I wish all of you good luck and safe travels!

We have had one of the hottest beginning's to summer that I remember, however the cattle are still looking good and the grass is holding up.

In the middle of June I had the opportunity to attend Beef Leaders Institute (BLI) hosted by the American Angus Association. Being selected to join the group of cattlemen and cattlewomen was indeed a honor. This was definitely a eye opening experience to portions of the industry that I had not seen. While on the trip we visited Cargill where they make most of the deli and precooked meats that are sold in many stores around the country. We also toured Sysco in Nebraska. While there we had the opportunity to tour the warehouses where their products are shipped from. I did learn that they are a primary outlet for Certified Angus Beef. I must say my favorite part of the Institute had to have been touring the Tyson plant. We had the opportunity to see the entire process starting from the whole carcass hanging on the rail down to a ribeye steak. This was for sure a lot to take in however I have gained an even greater appreciation for the hard work that goes into the whole process.

I would encourage anyone that is a member of the American Angus Association to contact them for information on BLI. This was a great experience and I'm thankful to the Association for giving me the opportunity to participate.
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13253861143999878321noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-371537857363006798.post-87249938944675563882012-03-19T13:56:00.001-07:002012-03-19T13:56:51.465-07:00Circle A Ranch Bull Sale

On this past Saturday I along with Col. Jim Birdwell had the opportunity to sell the Circle A Ranch Bull Sale. They had a wonderful sale averaging $4339 on 236 bulls, and $2327 on 465 bred heifers. It is always fun to sell a good sale and to work a with a great crew. I started out the weekend in Warrensburg, MO at Weigand Grain & Livestock Annual Bull Sale, where we sold 44 bulls to average $3127. They had a huge crowd and the bulls were very good as well. I always enjoying selling the WGL Bull Sale, since I grew up showing with the whole family and becoming friends with them. They are such a good family and I am proud to call each of the friends.

Next I went to West Plains, MO to sell the Heart of the Ozarks Angus Association Spring Sale. There we had 49 lots to average $3016 with the top selling bull bringing $6000.

Leaving West Plains I headed to Mt. Morris, IL on a short 8 hour drive. In Mt. Morris I sold the Rock River Bull Sale with a great set of bulls that averaged $2800.

It has been a few long days but it always fun and enjoyable to work with such great people and sell good cattle.

The Sydensticker Genetics Production Sale was again a success, grossing $1,460,000 to average $4220 per lot, here is a link to the sale report. Sydgen Sale Report The crowd was huge as usual and the cattle were as good as I can remember. It was my pleasure to sell along side Col. Al Conover and Col. Eddie Burks, both of these gentlemen do a excellent job. Congratulations to all of the Sydgen Crew on a Great Sale! I hope you all enjoy the pictures and video.

I had the opportunity to visit with a lot of different people that I had not seen in along time. The cattle were excellent in all of the breeds that I saw. It was very interesting to go to some of the Angus Association meetings. I was able to serve as a voting delegate for the first time and was honored to do so. It is always enjoyable to meet new folks and catch up with old friends.

Tomorrow I will head to Mexico, MO to sell the Sydenstricker Genetics production sale on Saturday. The cattle look great and interest has been good, if I can be of assistance to any of you let me know I will be glad to assist you with your purchases.

On Saturday I sold the XL Angus Mature Cow Herd Dispersal, in Springfield, MO we sold 68 lots to average $2040. Then that evening I was in Columbia, MO to sell the Calf Quest sale where we had 22 lots of Club Calves, the Travel Channel filmed the sale for the show Truck Stop Missouri, the show should be airing in March. On Sunday I had the opportunity of visiting Sydenstricker Genetics in Mexico, MO and viewed the sale offering for the Nov. 19th Production Sale. As in years past the offering is outstanding with females and bulls that can improve any operation. Check out the Sales & Events Calendar page for a link to the sale catalog.
We were able to see lots of friends that we hadn't seen in quite a while. The shows were competitive and enjoyable to watch. The Champion Open Angus Heifer was shown by Margaret Spencer of NE and Reserve was shown by Trista Bates of MT. Express Ranches of OK exhibited the Grand and Reserve Champion Bulls. Congratulations to Gregory Connell and Parker Henley exhibiting the Grand Champion Charolais Heifer in the open show. Also congrats goes out to Crutcher Cattle Co. and Big River Charolais they sold they Reserve Champion Open Charolais Heifer. In the Low Percentage Simmental Show Kenzie Strickland of OK, exhibited both the Champion and Reserve Heifer, the Reserve Heifer was raised and sold by Owen Bros. Cattle Co.

Another highlight of the weekend, Rachel and I were able to go to the Rodeo and Reba concert, the best part was that our seats were only 3 rows off the floor. It was defiantly a thrill and we thank Jennie Owen for helping us get the tickets.
