Fall Cattle Sales

As we journey through the fall sale season cattle prices are at all time highs.  There has never been a more exciting time to be in the cattle business.  The sales that I have sold have been some of the best the the breeders have had to date.  The Heart of the Ozarks Angus Association had another great sale with a huge crowd, the sale averaged $3,462 on 62 lots.  At East Central Missouri Angus Association sale a high quality set of bulls and females sold to a active bidding crowd for a average of over $3,000.  This was my first year to sell the Jack Baker Angus Sale, and what a great sale the we had on a windy day in Butler, MO.  A capacity crowd packed into his sale barn and without a doubt was extremely active throughout the sale.  The 50 bulls sold for a average of $5,285, 61 female lots averaged $3,672, with a total of 111 lots sold to average $4,398.  A true highlight of my fall was serving as the Auctioneer for the Earl Weiker Estate Dispersal Sale.  With buyers from all over the United States filling the sale barn, the high quality Angus genetics were in great demand.  With over 200 lots selling the sale averaged over $4,000 per lot.

I want to encourage everyone to attend the 36th Annual Production Sale at Sydenstricker Genetics on Saturday, November 22nd, in Mexico, MO. MO Angus Futurity

I'm excited that once again we will be consigning cattle to the MO Angus Futurity!  The show and sale will be Feb. 23rd and 24th, in Columbia, MO.  Here is the link to catalog MO Angus Futurity! This year we are putting in three of our top heifers.

The first is Lot 7, Hunters Forever Lady 924 228.  She is a 9/03/12 daughter of Connealy Impression out of a Dam by Duff New Attraction 6110.  This heifer stems from a great cow family tracing directly to B&M Forever Lady 294.  Lot 7 is a great prospect with the potential to make a great donor.

Our second heifer is Lot 30, Hunters Pride 205.  She is a 1/18/12 daughter of the up and coming sire Pine Coulee Highbrow W185, her Dam is a powerful daughter of BR Midland.  Here is a heifer that has a ton of eye appeal, depth, and power.  I really like the look and style that she possess, don't miss this one.

Our third and final heifer is Lot 31, Broken E Infinity 204.  This is a heifer that we own with Broken E Farms of Buffalo, MO.  She was born 1/18/12 and is a daughter of Connealy Impression and a Dam by Traveler 004.  Here is the Power heifer of the bunch, if you want the power and look in a litter bigger package this is your heifer.

We are very excited about these heifers and look forward to see how they do in the Show and Sale in Columbia.  Let me know if you have any questions about theses heifers.

Look forward to seeing everyone in Columbia!
If you haven't done so already I would encourage you to follow my blog.

2013

It has been a exciting start to 2013!  I must say that I'm looking forward to this year more than I have any other year.  I have a good work week selling car auctions, a busy spring and fall selling cattle auctions, as well as a improving Angus herd.

Along with all of this Rachel is busy as the Online and Social Media Manager for Cowgirl Clad Co.  I am very proud of her and the success that she is having.  I will say that she is excellent at what she does and takes great pride in her work.  If any of you get a chance to visit there, the website is www.cowgirlclad.com.

The car auctions become more and more fun the longer I work them.  I enjoy each week working with true professionals in the auction business.  It is fun selling salvage cars at Total Resource Auctions, as well as the whole car sales for Manheim and 166 Auto Auction.

With the high demand for quality cattle this should be a fun year of selling cattle.  This will be the busiest year I have had selling cattle sales.  With the expansion of DNA and improved EPD's, I believe that the bull market will be outstanding.

Our Angus herd is improving and we are now running 60 mother cows.  This past fall we purchased a bull from 74-51 Cattle Co. in OK.  He is a 2011 son of BC Lookout by a EXAR Sudden Impact dam.  We are extremely excited about the upcoming progeny from this exciting herd sire.  We have a good show string developing for the summer and fall shows.  I would encourage you to stop by and see us at the spring sales and summer shows.

As I look at the year to come and the goals that Rachel and I set it is fun to look at the future and work towards our goals.

NCHA 2012

This past weekend myself and Wes Tiemann a good friend of mine that I work many of my cattle sales with attended the National Cutting Horse Futurity in Fort Worth, TX.  I have been wanting to go to this for sometime now and haven't had the chance, with a weekend open from sales we took advantage and headed to Fort Worth.

The horses at the Futurity were amazing, I would definelty describe them as athletes.  I have only ridden a cutting horse one time and I must say it is Awesome.  To see the horses work so hard and have total control of a cow is Amazing.

The main reason I wanted to go was to see the Auctions.  We went to Friday and Saturday's Auctions.  On Friday night they sold the horses in the main Sale Arena, the crowd was huge, it is good we got there early because there was not a seat in the house.  Selling the sales were Col. Don Green, Col. Steve Friskup, and Col. Justin Holmberg.  I had never got to watch these gentlemen sell a sale and I must say they are all some of the best I have ever seen.  It was also good to get to meet these gentlemen and visit with them prior to the sale.  One of my good friends Wade Cunningham is a Pedigree Reader for Western Blood Stock, that manages the sales during the Futurity.  I must say Wes and I both were very impressed with the job that Wade did at the Futurity.  On Saturday we watched the sale, during this sale the horses were working a cow while being sold.  This is something I had never seen however is very effective.  Again a large crowd was in attendance and horses sold well.  It is exciting to see a horse working a cow and selling for $150,000 at the same time.

I had a great time while in Fort Worth and as always Wes and I try to learn "Life" lessons every where we go! I am planning on making this trip again next year to see more great horses and more great sales.

The Fall of 2012

Had a exciting fall with good cattle sales as well as enjoyed attending some shows.  Congratulations to all the buyers and sellers that attended the sales I sold.  I believe that the quality of cattle get better and better each year at each of my sales.  I had a first time sale in Farmington, MO where I sold the Performance Tested Bull Sale, I remember attending this sale when I was very young with my Granddad when he sold bulls there.  Again this year I served as one of the Auctioneers for the Sydenstricker Genetics Production Sale, this was there 60th Anniversary sale and a record 1.8 million dollars worth of cattle sold for a average of $4141 per head.

As well as good sales the show were also enjoyable, going to the Tulsa St. Fair where our Simmental bull OBCC Park Ave. M91X was Reserve Grand Champion.  At the American Royal he placed 2nd in class behind the Reserve National Champion Bull.  We also went to Louisville and took in a couple days watching the Angus Jr show as well as attending some of the Angus meetings and Foundation Reception.  It is always good to go to the shows and get to see so many friends from all over the country.

OBCC Park Ave. M91X
Rachel and I are looking forward to a great Christmas Holiday with family and friends we have a lot of places to be and thankful that we get the opportunity to go to each of the Christmas dinners and get together's with our family.

NJAS Here We Come

I am excited to say that I will be attending the National Jr Angus Show this next week!  The show is being held in Louisville, KY, which was the site of my first NJAS in 1995.  The NJAS was always a highlight of our summers, from 1995 until my brother Jordan was done showing we only missed one show.  I learned a great deal and made friends from all over the nation.  I hope that each Jr that is going this year has as good of an experience that I had when I was a Jr member.

I'm also excited that my wife Rachel owner of Western Beads & Bling will have her Jewelry for sale while at the show, look for her in the trade show area.  I would encourage everyone to stop by, say hi and check out all the new BLING!!

I wish all of you good luck and safe travels!
